WHAT IS WORLD BOOK DAY?
World Book Day is a day set aside every year to celebrate reading, books, authors and illustrators. It’s marked in more than 100 countries around the world and will be celebrated for the 18th time in 2015. The date for World Book Day 2015 is Thursday 5th March.
WHAT ARE THE £1 WORLD BOOK DAY BOOK TOKENS?
A key aim of World Book Day is to give every child in the UK and Ireland a book of their own to keep. When you get your book token, all you need to do is to take it to your local bookshop and swap it for one of the ten exclusive, new and completely free £1 World Book Day books! Or, if you’d prefer, you can use your book token to get £1 off any full price book instead! And if you’d rather get an audio book, that’s fine too! So that’s £1 off any book or audio book, it’s your choice, just as long as it would normally cost at least £2.99. Then all YOU have to do is take your book home and enjoy it. The World Book Day Book Tokens are valid from 2nd March—29th March 2015.
WHAT ELSE IS SCHOOL DOING TO CELEBRATE WORLD BOOK DAY?
We are having an exciting book character dress up day at St Thomas’ on Thursday 5th March. Your child will be allowed to come to school dressed as any character they like from children’s books. Previously the children have really responded well to the challenge of fancy dress. We will provide your child with ideas for the day but we would also appreciate your support in helping your child to prepare for this day however you can. Please remember that the main aim of the day is that the children have lots of fun whilst we continue to raise the profile of reading for enjoyment. Your child’s costume can be as creative or as simple as you like. Some of the best fancy dress costumes cost very little to prepare. This whole day is to get children interested and involved in reading, so feel free to support us in whatever way you can.

May we remind parents to take care when dropping off and collecting children at school. Please have regard for your child’s and other children’s safety by not stopping in the middle of the road as this causes congestion, particularly on Frances Street.
If your child is absent from school for any reason, please inform school by telephone, letter or calling in person to the School Office. If we do not receive this information your child’s absence will be marked unauthorised and followed up by the attendance officers. Thank you to those parents who keep in touch with school at these times.
Thank you for all of your support at the Christmas Fair. All of the profits made have been given to each class so they can purchase some additional resources for playtimes and lunchtimes. Also, a great big thank you to the Year 5 class who have raised over £170 by selling cakes for Children in Need as part of their Archie Bishop Project.
